FULL OF THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES, AND TALKED WITH ME, SAYING, COME HITHER, I WILL SHOW THEE THE BRIDE, THE LAMB'S WIFE. (New Jerusalem was introduced, in Rev 21:2, as a BRIDE ADORNED FOR HER HUSBAND.) One of the same angels that brought destruction to the earth and to the unbelievers, now brings a vision of beauty. One of the angels that had the seven vials had also shown John the judgment of the great whore-ref Rev 17:1. John is told to come and see "the bride, the Lamb's wife," which is the city of God, New Jerusalem. (Note, New Jerusalem is called "the bride" and "the Lamb's wife.") In the verses following, this city of God is shown to be decked with precious jewels. Note Isa 61:10-AS A BRIDE ADORNETH HERSELF WITH HER JEWELS.

God's Word reveals a sight that is unimaginable. It is written, FOR SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD MEN HAVE NOT HEARD, NOR PERCEIVED BY THE EAR, NEITHER HATH THE EYE SEEN, O GOD, BESIDE THEE, WHAT HE HATH PREPARED FOR HIM THAT WAITETH FOR HIM-Isa 64:4.

21:10. AND HE CARRIED ME AWAY IN THE SPIRIT TO (the top of) A GREAT AND HIGH MOUNTAIN, AND SHEWED ME THAT GREAT CITY, THE HOLY JERUSALEM, DESCENDING OUT (or coming down out) OF HEAVEN FROM GOD. NJ.

21:10. AND HE CARRIED ME AWAY IN THE SPIRIT. John is translated in the spirit, TO (the top of)

A GREAT AND HIGH MOUNTAIN. The mountain is not identified, neither is its location revealed. It apparently is a good place to view the city, which seems to be above the new earth. There are some that believe the city will come down and be on the earth itself.

AND SHEWED ME THAT GREAT CITY. New Jerusalem is described as a "great" city.
THE HOLY JERUSALEM. The city is holy.
DESCENDING OUT (or coming down out)
OF HEAVEN FROM GOD. It actually descends out of heaven from the Father.

21:11. HAVING THE GLORY OF GOD: AND HER LIGHT (or brilliance) WAS LIKE UNTO A STONE (or jewel) MOST PRECIOUS, EVEN LIKE A JASPER STONE, CLEAR AS CRYSTAL (or like a crystal-clear diamond-JNT¹⁹²). NJ.

21:11. HAVING THE GLORY OF GOD. New Jerusalem, the city of God, reflects the glory of God.

MOST PRECIOUS. The "most precious" seems to indicate a dazzling, brilliant light.
EVEN LIKE A JASPER STONE, CLEAR AS CRYSTAL (or like a crystal-clear diamond-JNT¹⁹²). A jasper stone may reflect a greenish-white light or even a variety of colors. A diamond may reflect a crystal clear light; it may at times reflect a spectrum of color.

21:12. AND HAD A WALL. New Jerusalem has a wall.

GREAT AND HIGH. The wall is immense and lofty. Walls give a sense of security. It will indeed be secure. God will reign there.

AND HAD TWELVE GATES. The city of New Jerusalem is shown to have gates. Twelve of them are revealed. One cannot just enter the city from any direction or any place. He must enter through a gate.

AND AT THE GATES TWELVE ANGELS. Angels are stationed at the gates. These might be called gatekeepers.
AND NAMES WRITTEN (or inscribed)
THEREON (the gates). Names were written on the gates.

WHICH ARE THE NAMES OF THE TWELVE TRIBES OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL. The names, however, are not listed in this verse. Thus, the names of the gates appear to be the names of the tribes of Israel. If the names would correspond to the millennial Jerusalem, in Ezek 48:31-34, it may be the following: east-Joseph, Benjamin, and Dan; north-Reuben, Judah, and Levi; south-Simeon, Issachar, and Zebulun; and west-Gad, Asher, and Naphtali.

The names of the twelve tribes appear to represent Old Testament Israel.

The names of the twelve apostles may represent New Testament Israel or, perhaps, the New Testament church.

New Jerusalem appears to be shaped like a huge cube. It is approximately 1380 to 1500 miles long, wide, and high. It appears to be a very large version of the "Holy of Holies"-ref 1 Ki 6:20.

The exact length of a furlong (Greek: stadion), at the time this was written, seems uncertain. The most accurate estimates on all three dimensions range from 1380 to 1500 miles (or approximately 2220 to 2414 km).

A city of this size could house billions of people. If the city had multiple levels, it could easily house many more and still have much room left to roam.

21:17. AND HE MEASURED THE WALL THEREOF, AN HUNDRED AND FORTY AND FOUR CUBITS (thick) (or 216 feet), ACCORDING TO THE MEASURE OF A MAN (or by human standards of measurement-JNT¹⁹⁴), THAT IS, OF THE ANGEL (or which the angel was using-JNT¹⁹⁴). NJ.

The beauty of a spectacular fireworks display seems pale in comparison with the glowing splendor and radiant colors of New Jerusalem. The beauty of the city of God cannot be comprehended.

21:21. AND THE TWELVE GATES WERE TWELVE PEARLS; EVERY SEVERAL GATE WAS OF ONE PEARL: AND THE (main) STREET OF THE CITY WAS PURE GOLD, AS IT WERE TRANSPARENT (as) GLASS. NJ.

Just imagine, a pearl the size of a gate, which is part of a wall that appears as a diamond, surrounding a city of transparent gold!

21:24. AND THE NATIONS. It is noted that the new earth has nations.

OF THEM WHICH ARE SAVED. Those nations are saved. This is in harmony with 2 Pe 3:13; as it is written, WHEREIN DWELLETH RIGHTEOUSNESS. These nations

SHALL WALK IN THE LIGHT OF IT (or walk by its light). These saved nations shall walk by the light of New Jerusalem. This seems to mean that spiritually, they are walking by its light. New Jerusalem has no need of the sun or the moon. Such a statement is not made regarding the new earth; however, it is possible that New Jerusalem may give light to the new earth.

Many questions are left unanswered. Will New Jerusalem also radiate heat? Will the new earth rotate? What will be the size of the new earth? The Lord has not chosen, at this time, to give us many of the details.

It will be a wonderful place of righteousness.

AND THE KINGS OF THE EARTH. The new earth will have kings, indicating some form of government. Since the nations are saved, the government should be a theocracy.

As it is written, THE TABERNACLE OF GOD IS WITH MEN, AND HE WILL DWELL WITH THEM, AND THEY SHALL BE HIS PEOPLE, AND GOD HIMSELF SHALL BE WITH THEM, AND BE THEIR GOD-Rev 21:3.

New Jerusalem was also shown to have twelve gates in Rev 21:12. There were three gates on each of the four sides, north, south, east, and west in Rev 21:13. Each gate had an angel, in Rev 21:12, and also the name of a tribe of Israel. Each gate was made of one pearl in Rev 21:21.

These gates will never be shut
AT ALL BY DAY: FOR THERE SHALL BE NO NIGHT THERE. God is light. This is the city of light. This is the city of God-ref Heb 12:22. God's glory will be there continually. No night shall ever exist, for the glory of God lightens New Jerusalem.

Apparently, with our new bodies, we shall never need sleep.

21:26. AND THEY SHALL BRING THE GLORY (or splendor) AND HONOR OF THE NATIONS INTO IT. NE, NJ.

THEY WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE LAMB'S BOOK OF LIFE. Nothing that defileth or is impure (or sin) shall ever enter into New Jerusalem. No unforgiven, unsanctified, unsaved person will ever enter into New Jerusalem. Only those that are written in the Lamb's book of life will be able to enter into the city. Before we can enter into the presence of God, we must be washed by the blood of the Lamb, because sin separates us from God.

22:1. AND HE SHEWED ME A PURE RIVER OF WATER OF LIFE, CLEAR (or sparkling) AS CRYSTAL, PROCEEDING (or flowing) OUT OF THE THRONE OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB. Ref Jn 4:13,14; 1 Cor 10:4. NJ.

22:1. AND HE SHEWED ME A PURE RIVER. New Jerusalem has a river

AS CRYSTAL. The water is perfectly clear as crystal. This may represent the holiness and pureness of God. It is

OUT OF THE THRONE. The river of water begins by flowing out of the throne. The throne belongs to the One that gives life. Flowing from the throne, which the Father and the Son sit upon, is the water of life.

It is written, JESUS...SAID...BUT WHOSOEVER DRINKETH OF THE WATER THAT I SHALL GIVE HIM SHALL NEVER THIRST; BUT THE WATER THAT I SHALL GIVE HIM SHALL BE IN HIM A WELL OF WATER SPRINGING UP INTO EVERLASTING LIFE-Jn 4:13,14.

AND DID ALL DRINK THE SAME SPIRITUAL DRINK: FOR THEY DRANK OF THAT SPIRITUAL ROCK THAT FOLLOWED THEM: AND THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST-1 Cor 10:4.

As previously stated, there is no temple, for the Father and the Son are THE TEMPLE OF IT-Rev 21:22. There is, however, a throne in New Jerusalem. The throne is OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB.

22:2. IN THE MIDST OF (or between) THE (main or great) STREET OF IT (or of the city), AND ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RIVER, WAS THERE THE TREE OF LIFE, WHICH BARE (or producing, or bearing) TWELVE MANNER (or kinds, or crops) OF FRUITS, AND YIELDED HER FRUIT (a different kind) EVERY MONTH: AND THE LEAVES OF THE TREE WERE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS. Rev 22:2 continues, on either side of the river,
WAS THERE THE TREE OF LIFE. The NIV states-ON EACH SIDE OF THE RIVER STOOD THE TREE OF LIFE. Here is the first mention of a tree. Perhaps there will be many other trees in New Jerusalem as well. Some of these may include the kinds of trees that were in the Garden of Eden.

Note, do these give us keys to salvation?

WISDOM, AND...UNDERSTANDING...IS A TREE OF LIFE-Pv 3:13,18. Without wisdom and understanding of God's Word (of Jesus), there is no hope.

THE FRUIT OF THE RIGHTEOUS IS A TREE OF LIFE-Pv 11:30. Winning souls is mentioned. By a person's fruits, you shall know them.

Note: wisdom, understanding, fruits, the tongue, overcoming, and doing God's commandments are associated with the tree of life in these verses.

Note, the tree of life is found in the Garden of Eden, in the paradise of God, and in New Jerusalem.

Rev 22:2 continues, The tree of life,
WHICH BARE (or producing, or bearing)
TWELVE MANNER (or kinds, or crops)
OF FRUITS. The tree is not stagnant; twelve different kinds of fruits are growing on it.
AND YIELDED HER FRUIT (a different kind)
EVERY MONTH. Each month a different kind of fruit will come forth. This also shows there will be twelve months in a cycle or year. Time will not stand still, but will continue.

One might also consider the fruits of the Spirit, the fruits of soul winning, the fruits of righteousness, the fruits of our works and of serving God, good fruits, and others.

AND THE LEAVES OF THE TREE. The tree has leaves as well as fruit. The leaves
WERE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS. Healing (therapeia in Greek) can mean "serving, care, or healing (therapy); medical, domestics: healing, household, or health-giving." The leaves will be used for the healing of the nations on the new earth; however, in what way they are used is unclear. (Note Ezek 47:12, during the Millennium.)

22:3. AND THERE SHALL BE NO MORE CURSE: BUT THE THRONE OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB SHALL BE IN IT (or in the city); AND HIS SERVANTS SHALL SERVE (or worship) HIM. NJ.

22:3. AND THERE SHALL BE NO MORE CURSE. The curse that came through the disobedience of Adam is gone. In addition, all sin has been paid for-righteousness reigns.

BUT THE THRONE OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB SHALL BE IN IT (or in the city, which is New Jerusalem). This is also covered in Rev 22:1.

AND HIS "SERVANTS" SHALL SERVE (or worship)
HIM. The redeemed that inherit New Jerusalem were servants of God. Serving God did not save them; however, "serving God" was a reflection of their faith. A person's works are prompted by faith in Jesus Christ. The saints shall eternally serve God and do "His" will.

22:4. AND THEY SHALL SEE HIS FACE; AND HIS NAME SHALL BE IN (or on) THEIR FOREHEADS. Ref Ex 33:20; 1 Jn 3:2; Rev 3:12. NJ.

22:4. AND THEY SHALL SEE HIS FACE. From the time of the resurrection and on, the saints should be able to see the face of God. In New Jerusalem, the redeemed will see His face. Man, in his sinful state, cannot look upon the face of God. As it is written, AND HE SAID, THOU CANST NOT SEE MY FACE: FOR THERE SHALL NO MAN SEE ME, AND LIVE-Ex 33:20.

Although, when He shall appear, the following will apply. BELOVED, NOW ARE WE THE SONS OF GOD, AND IT DOTH NOT YET APPEAR WHAT WE SHALL BE: BUT WE KNOW THAT, WHEN HE SHALL APPEAR, WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM; FOR WE SHALL SEE HIM AS HE IS-1 Jn 3:2.

Rev 22:4 continues, AND HIS NAME SHALL BE IN (or on)
THEIR FOREHEADS. It is also written, HIM THAT OVERCOMETH...I WILL WRITE UPON HIM MY NEW NAME-Rev 3:12. This indicates ownership-we are His possession for eternity.

Very little information is given about the new earth. Some believe the new earth will actually be the old earth renewed. Others believe it will be an entirely new planet.

Ecc 1:4 says, THE EARTH ABIDETH FOR EVER; it is also written, Eph 3:21-WORLD WITHOUT END. The Bible does not give enough information on this subject to have complete understanding.

"His servants," to those who are taught by the Spirit.

Many seem to think that the Revelation is impossible to understand. The answer lies in the words, "His servants." This book was written for and can be understood by those that follow Jesus. For the unredeemed, however, it is a closed book, a book of confusion. Some, who walk in darkness, may think they understand, but they do not.

God sent His angel to show things that must take place soon. This was also confirmed in Rev 1:1; as it is written, THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST, WHICH GOD GAVE UNTO HIM, TO SHOW UNTO HIS SERVANTS THINGS WHICH MUST SHORTLY COME TO PASS; AND HE SENT AND SIGNIFIED IT BY HIS ANGEL UNTO HIS SERVANT JOHN.

He had fallen down before the feet of the angel.
His intent was to worship the angel.

The angel refused to allow himself to be worshiped. John was forbidden from doing these things, because the angel was his fellow servant. Man is not to worship man, no matter how great or exalted a position he may hold.

Let us recall the incident with Herod. It is written, AND UPON A SET DAY HEROD, ARRAYED IN ROYAL APPAREL, SAT UPON HIS THRONE, AND MADE AN ORATION UNTO THEM. AND THE PEOPLE GAVE A SHOUT, SAYING, IT IS THE VOICE OF A GOD, AND NOT OF A MAN. AND IMMEDIATELY THE ANGEL OF THE LORD SMOTE HIM, BECAUSE HE GAVE NOT GOD THE GLORY: AND HE WAS EATEN OF WORMS, AND GAVE UP THE GHOST-Acts 12:21-23.

THEN THE PRIEST OF JUPITER, WHICH WAS BEFORE THEIR CITY, BROUGHT OXEN AND GARLANDS UNTO THE GATES, AND WOULD HAVE DONE SACRIFICE WITH THE PEOPLE. WHICH WHEN THE APOSTLES, BARNABAS AND PAUL, HEARD OF, THEY RENT THEIR CLOTHES, AND RAN IN AMONG THE PEOPLE, CRYING OUT, AND SAYING, SIRS, WHY DO YE THESE THINGS? God only is to be worshiped; as it is written, WHO CHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD INTO A LIE, AND WORSHIPED AND SERVED THE CREATURE MORE THAN THE CREATOR, WHO IS BLESSED FOR EVER. AMEN-Ro 1:25.

Even angels are not to be worshiped; as it is written, LET NO MAN BEGUILE YOU...IN. WORSHIPING OF ANGELS-Col 2:18.

There are some churches and denominations or religions that condone and even encourage falling down before the head person. A certain religious denomination even encourages kissing the feet of their leader. Such practices are clearly forbidden by the Bible.

Rev 22:9 continues,

THE PROPHETS, AND OF THEM WHICH KEEP (or obey)
THE SAYINGS (or words)
OF THIS BOOK. The angel identifies himself as being:

thy fellow servant
of thy brothers
a prophet
one which keeps (or obeys) the words of this book.

Note, those that rebel against God's Word will not dwell with Jesus. 

John did not recognize him as a person, but thought he was an angel. One might ask, "How could this be?" It is written, FOR IN THE RESURRECTION THEY...ARE AS THE ANGELS OF GOD IN HEAVEN-Mt 22:30.

The verse concludes with the words, WORSHIP GOD. Only God is to be worshiped.

THE SAYINGS (or words). The Revelation is not a sealed book. It was given to John to be understood; however, the understanding is reserved for "His servants." Correct understanding of much of the Revelation is hidden from those that are not His servants.

This is very different from Daniel, which was written several hundred years prior to the Revelation. In Dan 12:4, it is written, BUT THOU, O DANIEL, SHUT UP THE WORDS, AND SEAL THE BOOK, EVEN TO THE TIME OF THE END. Some of the prophecies in Daniel revealed prophetic events that would take place in the distant future. However, the understanding of these was not revealed by God until the appointed time had arrived. Therefore, parts of Daniel were not understood for many centuries, but now it is an unsealed book open to God's servants, as the time of the end is at hand. Seal not the sayings

The verse is broken down into two parts: the unredeemed and the redeemed. The unredeemed are called unjust and filthy; the redeemed are called righteous and holy.

Once a person dies, the state they are in is fixed.

The unjust and the filthy will spend eternity in the lake of fire. They will retain their unjust and filthy nature for eternity. Whatever nature they had on the earth will be kept forever and ever. The lake of fire will have multitudes of people whose nature is that of raw bitterness, hatred, covetousness, jealousy, greed, lying, deceitfulness, murder, stealing, violence, and every sort of ungodliness one can conceive. They will still have their ungodly desires, but they will never be gratified. Where will pride be, when eternal damnation and suffering is the only future?

The redeemed will forever be partakers of the divine nature. They will forever be righteous and holy. They will forever be filled with joy and love and will be surrounded with people that are the same way.

22:12. AND, BEHOLD (or pay attention!), I COME QUICKLY (or I am coming soon!); AND MY REWARD IS WITH ME, TO GIVE EVERY MAN (or person) ACCORDING AS HIS WORK SHALL BE (or according to what he has done-JNT²⁰⁰). Ref 1 Cor 3:13-15. Res, Rew, JSJC.

I COME QUICKLY (or I am coming soon!). "I come quickly" also appears in verses 7 and 20. One day is as a thousand years with the Lord. By that scale, He is coming quickly, as this was written only about 1900 years ago.

AND MY REWARD IS WITH ME, TO GIVE EVERY MAN (or person)
ACCORDING AS HIS WORK SHALL BE (or according to what he has done-JNT²⁰⁰). Jesus comes in the air at the time of the Rapture-rewards are given. Jesus returns to the earth at the Battle of Armageddon-rewards are given.

Rewards are being determined "now" by what each servant of God does. EVERY MAN'S WORK SHALL BE MADE MANIFEST: FOR THE DAY SHALL DECLARE IT, BECAUSE IT SHALL BE REVEALED BY FIRE; AND THE FIRE SHALL TRY EVERY MAN'S WORK OF WHAT SORT IT IS. IF ANY MAN'S WORK ABIDE WHICH HE HATH BUILT THEREUPON, HE SHALL RECEIVE A REWARD. IF ANY MAN'S WORK SHALL BE BURNED, HE SHALL SUFFER LOSS: BUT HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED; YET SO AS BY FIRE-1 Cor 3:13-15.

A lack of serving God and many excuses should result in a lack of rewards or even worse. Serving God joyfully and without excuse can bring an abundance of rewards.

Incredible as it may seem in this Laodicean church age, many churches that teach Jesus is the only way to be saved will not teach on the Revelation. They use the same excuses that the unbelievers use.

Clearly, God will not lead a preacher contrary to His Word. Yet, in this age of deception, many Bible teachers actually believe God is leading them not to read or teach the Revelation to their people, even though this is contrary to the Scriptures. The Spirit of God will not lead someone to do contrary to God's Word. Know this, it is written, FOR AS MANY AS ARE LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THEY ARE THE SONS OF GOD-Ro 8:14.

This is the age of religious deception. Like leaven, it thrives in the Bible schools and continues down through the preachers and on to the people. The deception of this church age is great. Many churches today teach about Jesus, but they will not be raptured. They teach Jesus, but they do not follow Jesus. They will go into the Tribulation. When the Antichrist comes on the scene, their understanding will be so darkened and deceived, they will not even recognize who this man of sin is.

THE REVELATION IS TO BE TAUGHT IN TODAY'S CHURCHES

Rev 1:1-THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST, WHICH GOD GAVE UNTO HIM, TO SHOW UNTO HIS SERVANTS THINGS WHICH MUST SHORTLY COME TO PASS; AND HE SENT AND SIGNIFIED IT BY HIS ANGEL UNTO HIS SERVANT JOHN. One of the purposes of the Revelation is to show the servants of Jesus Christ certain things. The Revelation is not for unbelievers, but for those who, when the Lord comes, shall be found watching and so doing. The Revelation gives future events, which are absolutely certain to come to pass. Even as the Revelation was being written, some of the prophecies were already beginning to transpire. The Father gave it to Jesus. Jesus delivered it to the angel. The angel revealed it to John, and John made it known to the servants of God through the written Word. The Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 1:3-BLESSED IS HE THAT READETH, AND THEY THAT HEAR THE WORDS OF THIS PROPHECY, AND KEEP THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN THEREIN: FOR THE TIME IS AT HAND. A special blessing is promised to the individuals that read or hear the words of this prophecy and also keep the things written therein. Note, the verse said, HE THAT READETH, AND THEY THAT HEAR THE WORDS OF THIS PROPHECY. The book of the Revelation is also called "THIS PROPHECY." The importance of the Revelation being taught in the churches today is critical, as THE TIME IS AT HAND. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 1:4-JOHN TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES. Again, it is noted that the Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 1:11-SAYING, I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA.WRITE IN A BOOK, AND SEND IT UNTO THE SEVEN CHURCHES. Again, it is noted that the Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 3:14-AND UNTO THE ANGEL OF THE CHURCH OF THE LAODICEANS WRITE; THESE THINGS SAITH THE AMEN, THE FAITHFUL AND TRUE WITNESS, THE BEGINNING OF THE CREATION OF GOD. This is the age of the Laodicean church that is seeing the fulfillment of many prophecies, which show clearly that the horrible Tribulation period is at hand. Again, it is noted that the Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 3:22-HE THAT HATH AN EAR, LET HIM HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT SAITH UNTO THE CHURCHES. The letter is addressed to the church in general; however, the message is directed to the individual-"HE" that hath an ear. Not everyone has an "ear" or a heart to hear God's Word. These verses are not addressed to the unbeliever or the make-believe Christian; they are directed to the believers, the church. Even some that are believers can become hardened toward God's Word and turn away. They no longer have an ear to hear correction. They no longer have a discerning heart to examine themselves by God's Word to see their true position with Him. They can no longer discern right and wrong by God's Word. Therefore, both collectively and individually, they are being told, "HE THAT HATH AN EAR," or a heart to understand, "LET HIM HEAR." The Spirit of God is speaking. These same words are repeated in all seven churches. Note the word "churches" is used at the end. It is plural. While each church does cover events from a specific age, each letter is also intended for all church ages to consider and learn from. Again, it is noted that the Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 19:10-FOR THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS IS THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY. The purpose of prophecy is to testify of Jesus and glorify Him. "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

The Old Testament often foretold of the first coming of Jesus. To our generation, prophecy tells of the second coming of Jesus. Again, it is noted that the Revelation is to be taught in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 22:6-AND HE SAID UNTO ME, THESE SAYINGS ARE FAITHFUL AND TRUE: AND THE LORD GOD OF THE HOLY PROPHETS SENT HIS ANGEL TO SHOW UNTO HIS SERVANTS THE THINGS WHICH MUST SHORTLY BE DONE (or happen soon, or take place). God's Word is perfect and true. What He said will certainly come to pass and can be trusted. The Revelation is shown to "His servants," to those that are taught by the Spirit. The importance of these things being taught is so great, God sent His angel to show them. God's wants His people to know and understand what must take place soon as related in the Scriptures and specifically in the Revelation. Again, it is noted that the Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 22:7-BEHOLD, I COME QUICKLY: BLESSED IS HE THAT KEEPETH THE SAYINGS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK. A person can be hindered from keeping the sayings of the Revelation if his church will not teach it. The Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

Rev 22:10-AND HE SAITH UNTO ME, SEAL NOT THE SAYINGS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK: FOR THE TIME IS AT HAND. The Revelation is not a sealed book. Rev 22:18,19-FOR I TESTIFY UNTO EVERY MAN THAT HEARETH THE WORDS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK, IF ANY MAN SHALL ADD UNTO THESE THINGS, GOD SHALL ADD UNTO HIM THE PLAGUES THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK: AND IF ANY MAN SHALL TAKE AWAY FROM THE WORDS OF THE BOOK OF THIS PROPHECY, GOD SHALL TAKE AWAY HIS PART OUT OF THE BOOK OF LIFE, AND OUT OF THE HOLY CITY, AND FROM THE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK. A grave warning is given; it might be called a warning of doom. There are people in this generation that have committed this sin. There are those that have rewritten the Bible and even left out this verse. God's warning is, do not tamper with the prophecy of this book (the Revelation)! The Revelation is to be taught to the servants of God in today's churches. Clearly, something is wrong if a preacher will not teach the Revelation.

The Laodicean church age, which we are now in, is to take heed to this book. Woe unto them that refuse to teach this book, that warn against the study of this book, that falsely say this book cannot be understood. Woe to them that say the time is not at hand, that teach contrary to this book, that say this book is not inspired.

It may be said, one way the adversary causes preachers to take away from the words of the Revelation, is not to teach it at all. Thus, the preacher leaves his congregation in darkness regarding many things that Jesus has ordained to be taught.

Deut 12:32-WHAT THING SOEVER I COMMAND YOU, OBSERVE TO DO IT: THOU SHALT NOT ADD THERETO, NOR DIMINISH FROM IT. Ministers that will not teach the Revelation would do well to take heed to these words.

The Word of God has made it very clear: the Revelation is to be taught in His churches. It is Satan's desire that it not be taught, or that it be taught incorrectly.

Rev 22:16 continues, I AM THE ROOT AND THE OFFSPRING OF DAVID, AND THE BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR. Here are the last four descriptions of Jesus from the Revelation; one is repeated in a previous verse.

Jesus is the
ROOT...OF DAVID. This is covered in Rev 5:5. It connects Christ with Israel and the lineage of David. CONCERNING HIS SON JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, WHICH WAS MADE OF THE SEED OF DAVID ACCORDING TO THE FLESH-Ro 1:3.

Jesus is the #36-OFFSPRING OF DAVID. This is another description of Jesus. It is written, THE BOOK OF THE GENERATION OF JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF DAVID, THE SON OF ABRAHAM-Mt 1:1.

It is written, THE LORD SAID UNTO MY LORD, SIT THOU AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE THINE ENEMIES THY FOOTSTOOL-Ps 110:1.

Jesus said, WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST? WHOSE SON IS HE? THEY SAY UNTO HIM, THE SON OF DAVID. HE SAITH UNTO THEM, HOW THEN DOTH DAVID IN SPIRIT CALL HIM LORD, SAYING, THE LORD SAID UNTO MY LORD, SIT THOU ON MY RIGHT HAND, TILL I MAKE THINE ENEMIES THY FOOTSTOOL? IF DAVID THEN CALL HIM LORD, HOW IS HE HIS SON?-Mt 22:42-45.

• Jesus is from the lineage of David; thus, He is the son of David.

• Jesus is before all things. By Him were all things created. Only through Christ is there salvation.

• Jesus is the Lord of David; thus, He is both David's Lord and David's son.

• Jesus is the #37-BRIGHT...STAR.

Jesus is the #38-MORNING STAR. Jesus' coming is as the morning star. A new day is ahead. His coming is as the sunrise for both Israel and those that are watching and ready. The Millennium is about to begin. The unrepentant shall be cut off. The brightness of Jesus shall shine forth. It is written, I WILL GIVE HIM THE MORNING STAR-Rev 2:28. The last chapter of the last book in the Old Testament shows Christ as the "SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS"-Mal 4:2. It is written, BUT UNTO YOU THAT FEAR MY NAME SHALL THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS ARISE WITH HEALING IN HIS WINGS.

The last chapter of the last book in the New Testament shows Christ as the "bright and morning star."

AND HE SHOWED ME A PURE RIVER OF WATER OF LIFE, CLEAR AS CRYSTAL, PROCEEDING OUT OF THE THRONE OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB-Rev 22:1.

Three times the word "come" is mentioned in Rev 22:17.

Some maintain that all four invitations are addressed to the unrepentant-"Come."

Others believe that the first and second invitation refer to the Spirit, the bride, and him that heareth, saying, "Come Lord Jesus."

Then the third and fourth invitations are given to those that are athirst and whosoever will.

The conclusion of the whole matter is this: the Spirit, the bride, and he that hears say come; he that is thirsty for righteousness, come; and let whoever is willing, take of the free gift of the water of life (which is only possible through Jesus).

THAT HEARETH THE WORDS OF THE PROPHECY OF THIS BOOK. Next comes forth a very severe warning of doom. This seems to carry with it the same penalty as taking the mark and worshiping the image of the beast-eternal damnation.

IF ANY MAN SHALL ADD UNTO THESE THINGS, GOD SHALL ADD UNTO HIM THE PLAGUES THAT ARE WRITTEN (or described)
IN THIS BOOK. There are people in this generation that have committed this sin. Some have rewritten the Bible and even left out this verse.

22:19. Next comes another warning of eternal damnation to those that do not take heed.

God's warning is, do not tamper with the prophecy of the Revelation. It appears that the warning, given in these two verses, constitutes the unpardonable sin.

Some might argue that this is not true, as the words "his part" are included in this verse. However, one of the things written in this book includes the first resurrection, etc. If a man's part in the first resurrection is taken away and his share in the book or tree of life and of the holy city is removed, there appears to be nothing left except eternal damnation. There are others that would argue that, although this verse sounds like salvation can be lost, this cannot be true. The basis for their belief is, the verse does not say the "Lamb's" book of life, but rather the "book of life." They believe that the "book of life" and the "Lamb's book of life" are two different books.

• As already covered, there is a special blessing connected with this book. BLESSED IS HE THAT READETH, AND THEY THAT HEAR THE WORDS OF THIS PROPHECY, AND KEEP THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN THEREIN: FOR THE TIME IS AT HAND-Rev 1:3.

• As already covered, this book specifically is to be taught in all of the seven churches- ref Rev 1:4; 1:20; 2:1-3:22; and 22:16-I JESUS HAVE SENT MINE ANGEL TO TESTIFY UNTO YOU THESE THINGS IN THE CHURCHES.

• As already covered, changing the words of this book can carry with it a most severe penalty-ref Rev 22:18,19.

The Laodicean church age, which we are now in, should take heed to this book. Woe unto them that refuse to teach this book, that warn against the study of this book, or falsely say that this book cannot be understood. Woe unto them that say the time is not at hand, that teach contrary to this book, that say this book is not inspired.
